Newport Green, the site of a former rail depot, is a 4.2-acre public waterfront park located in a large, mixed-use community across from lower Manhattan.  The park provides a broad spectrum of outdoor activities, many of which emerged as part of a stakeholder engagement process.   An all-weather, multi-purpose field and adjacent lawn areas, peripherally framed by bird and butterfly habitat gardens, are available for school groups, seasonal concerts, or pick-up games. The park’s dynamic playground is imbued with a coastal theme that permeates its multi-age play zones. A carousel, ping pong table, and shaded bosque flank a central plaza with an interactive water feature that can be turned off to accommodate a farmers market or other public gatherings. The project's urban beach--the only one along the Hudson River--is surrounded by elevated wood boardwalks fitted with colorful umbrellas and lounge chairs overlooking the water. The park’s dramatic lighting creates an inviting experience in the evening and accentuates its architectural features.
